Speaker Hon. Filimone Jitoko paid a courtesy call on Samoa’s Prime Minister, Hon. Laʻauli Leuatea Schmidt, and conveyed greetings from Fiji’s Prime Minister, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong Fiji–Samoa relationship, grounded in shared cultural, historical, and economic ties and supported by the 2023 Memorandum of Understanding.
Discussions focused on key priorities including energy, healthcare, trade, regional leadership, and security, with particular attention to improving medical services, reducing overseas treatment costs, tackling illegal drug trafficking, and strengthening economic resilience.
Both sides also emphasised closer parliamentary cooperation and preparations for upcoming regional engagements such as the Pacific Islands Parliamentary Association (PIPA) to be held in Tahiti, while promoting cultural, sports, and people-to-people exchanges to build a stronger Pacific region.
