Public submissions invited in the Northern Division

The Parliament Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights is currently reviewing the following Bills and Report:

  1. the Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Bill No. 50 of 2020);
  2. the Electoral (Registration of Voters) (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Bill No. 51 of 2020);
  3. the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Bill No. 52 of 2020); and
  4. the 2018 General Election Joint Report by the Electoral Commission and the Supervisor of Elections

The Electoral (Amendment) Bill, Electoral (Registration of Voters) (Amendment) Bill  and the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) (Amendment) Bill,  aims to amend the Electoral Act 2014, Electoral (Registration of Voters) Act 2012 and the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013, respectively. These amendments aims  to reflect the changes recommended by the Electoral Commission and Fijian Elections Office which is also based on the Multinational Observer Group’s report on the 2018 General Elections.

The 2018 General Election Joint Report by the Electoral Commission and the Supervisor of Elections provides a comprehensive report on the work of the Electoral Commission and the Fijian Elections Office, headed by the Supervisor of Elections during the election period in 2018. Appended to the Joint Report are the 2018 General Election Final Report by the Supervisor of Elections and the 2018 General Election Final Report by the Multinational Observer Group.

In that regard, the Committee will be conducting further public consultations on the mentioned Bills in the following areas and venues and therefore invites any interested person or institution to attend the public consultations and provide their views and comments on the Bills and the Joint Report.
