The Standing Committees of the Fijian Parliament have begun deliberations this week, looking through Annual reports, Bill reports, work plans for 2018 and other pending issues within their various Committees.

The Committees include the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights, Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Standing Committee on Economic Affairs.

The Standing Committee on Economic Affairs began receiving submissions on the Fiji Electricity Authority 2016 Annual Report from relevant stakeholders.

The Committee received submissions from the Permanent Secretary of Public Enterprises, Mr David Kolitagane and his delegation on Wednesday.

Today the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) Mr Hasmukh Patel also made submissions on the FEA Annual Report.

Meanwhile, the 2018 February sitting has been postponed to March 2018, thereby having two weeks of sitting. The Parliament sittings for February and March will be held concurrently, under the new dates of Monday 5th March to Friday 16th March, 2018.

This is due to the 20th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers Meeting (‘CCEM’) which will be held from 19th to 23rd February 2018 in Nadi.

Ministers and their respective ministries will be engaged during this high-level meeting, therefore, the Honourable Speaker has ruled that the 2018 February sitting be postponed to March 2018, for two weeks.
