Chairperson for the Public Accounts Committee (‘PAC’) Hon. Alvick Maharaj attended the 2nd Commonwealth Association of Public Accounts Committee (‘CAPAC’) Executive Committee virtual meeting on Thursday, 1 October, 2020 at 10.00pm.

The meeting was chaired by Ms Meg Hillier, MP, United Kingdom and was attended by Hon. James Avedzi, MP & Vice CAPAC Chair, Ghana, Hon. Munaza Hassan, MP, Pakistan, Hon. Lucy Wicks, MP, Australia and Hon. Maharaj.

These inclusion is of vital importance to advancing parliamentary democracy across the Commonwealth and is a key priority of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

New Zealand, Western Australia and British Virgin Islands were the newly appointed member countries of CAPAC.

The PAC Chair and Members play a crucial role in defining, publishing and promoting standards of good practice in line with the Commonwealth principles that is to be effective, transparent and independent.

The 2nd CAPAC Executive Meeting could not meet in March earlier this year due to the on-going situation with COVID-19.

The 3rd CAPAC AGM meeting will be held in 2021 and will be hosted by Pakistan.

CAPAC was welcomed by the Commonwealth Heads of Government at a meeting in Malta in November 2015 as a network for strengthening public financial management and accountability.
