Speaker pays courtesy call on Tongan Prime Minister

Speaker Hon. Filimone Jitoko, today paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, Lord Fakafanua.
From the outset, Hon. Jitoko conveyed the warm greetings of Fiji’s Prime Minister the Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, whom he is representing at Samoa’s 64th Independence anniversary celebrations.
As the former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, Lord Fakafanua was briefed on recent developments concerning the Pacific Islands Parliamentary Association (PIPA), of which he was the inaugural Chairperson, as well as ongoing discussions with the newly appointed Secretary‑General of the Inter‑Parliamentary Union.
Hon. Speaker Jitoko also took the opportunity to congratulate in-person Lord Fakafanua on his ascension to Prime Minister, and expressed his hope for continued co-operation and the strengthening of parliamentary relations between Fiji and Tonga.
