Speaker attends Samoa’s 64th Independence anniversary celebrations

The Speaker Hon. Filimone Jitoko and Mrs Elina Jitoko attended the commemoration of Samoa’s 64th Independence Anniversary early this morning, with the official ceremony commencing at 5:00am at the Malaefatu Grounds.

In a strong display of national pride and unity, members of the public, from the young to the elderly, made their way to the venue in the early hours of the morning to assemble for the ceremonial proceedings.

The programme featured the traditional parade assembly, followed by the march past, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and enduring spirit of the Samoan people.

The celebrations were attended by a number of distinguished regional and international dignitaries, including the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, Hon. Lord Fakafanua, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, Rt. Hon. Winston Peters as well as other esteemed representatives from across the Pacific region.

The occasion marked a significant milestone in Samoa’s history, highlighting its continued commitment to sovereignty, unity, and regional cooperation.
