Speaker meets CPA Secretary-General

Speaker of the Fijian Parliament the Hon. Filimone Jitoko, held a brief meeting with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Secretary-General, Mr Stephen Twigg, during the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland.

Discussions focused on technical assistance from the CPA, the upcoming 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Barbados, the twinning arrangements between the Australian State Parliaments and that of the Pacific Parliaments including the Fijian Parliament, and the recent Presiding Officers and Clerks Conference that was held in Nauru.

Hon. Jitoko expressed appreciation for the CPA’s continued support and reaffirmed the Fijian Parliament’s dedication to regional cooperation and legislative proficiency.

Since this was the first meeting between the CPA Secretary-General and the Hon. Speaker, Mr Twigg took the opportunity to congratulate the Hon. Speaker for his appointment and looks forward to further collaboration on priority areas for the Fijian Parliament.
