The Parliament of the Republic of Fiji successfully hosted its 14th Speaker’s Debate for 2026 yesterday evening at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva (06/08/2026).
Moderated by the Speaker of Parliament the Hon. Filimone Jitoko, the debate brought together Members of Parliament, civil society representatives, youth leaders and members of the public to discuss the timely theme, “π
π«π¨π¦ πππ«ππ’ππ’π©πππ’π¨π§ ππ¨ πππ©π«ππ¬ππ§ππππ’π¨π§: ππ¨π° ππ¨ ππ ππ§ππ«πππ¬π ππ¨π¦ππ§ π’π§ πππ«π₯π’ππ¦ππ§π?”
The panel featured insightful contributions from Opposition Leader Hon. Inia Seruiratu, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Sashi Kiran, Fiji Women’s Rights Movement Governance Board Chair Ms. Akanisi Nabalarua, Lawyer and Social Worker Ms. Adi Litia Cakobau Nailatikau, and Youth Representative Ms. Kava Masilagi.
The discussion explored the barriers limiting women’s representation in Parliament while highlighting practical strategies to strengthen women’s political participation, leadership opportunities and institutional support.
Panellists emphasized the importance of collective action, inclusive leadership and sustained commitment to creating pathways for more women to participate in national decision-making.
The Speaker’s Debate continues to serve as an important platform for meaningful dialogue on national issues, bringing together diverse voices to encourage informed discussion and promote democratic engagement.
