The Parliament of the Republic of Fiji, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Fiji Parliament Support Project, invites women from across Fiji to apply for the 2026 Fiji Women’s Practice Parliament.

The programme aims to strengthen women’s understanding of parliamentary democracy, leadership, and governance while encouraging greater participation of women in decision-making and public life. Participants will gain practical experience in parliamentary debate, law-making, and public speaking through workshops and a practice parliamentary sitting.

Why Women’s Practice Parliament?

Women continue to be underrepresented in Parliament and leadership positions in Fiji. The Women’s Practice Parliament provides a platform for women to build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and better understand the role of Parliament in shaping Fiji’s future.

This initiative also raises public awareness of the important role Parliament plays in society — from lawmaking and oversight, to public representation and debate.

The 2026 Fiji Women’s Practice Parliament is being implemented by the Parliament Secretariat with funding support from the Governments of Australia, Japan and New Zealand and technical assistance from the UNDP FPSP.

Objectives

Participants will:

• Learn how Parliament functions in lawmaking, debate, and oversight;
  Develop leadership, advocacy, and public speaking skills;
• Discuss national issues affecting communities and women;
• Gain practical experience through a practice parliamentary sitting;
• Strengthen engagement between women leaders, Parliament, and stakeholders;
• Be equipped with critical legislative and policy analysis skills to support participation in parliament; and
• Have a greater understanding of parliamentary procedures and leadership.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

• Be a citizen of Fiji and currently residing in Fiji;
  • Be a women 18 years of age or older as of 18 October 2026
  • Demonstrate leadership and/or community involvement;
  • Have an interest in governance, politics, or public service;
  • Demonstrate commitment to civic engagement and women’s empowerment; and
  • Not have participated in any previous Practice Parliament programme (Student/Youth/Women).

How to Apply?

Submit the following documents:

1. Completed Women’s Practice Parliament Application Form;
2. Cover Letter expressing your interest, achievements and what you hope to gain (at least 2 pages);;
3. Curriculum Vitae (CV);
4. One Reference Letter supporting your application; and
5. Certified Copy of your Birth Certificate and Passport or Voter ID.
6. Letter to be addressed to the Secretary-General to Parliament, P.O.Box 2532, Government Buildings, Suva; and
7. Applications can be sent via email or dropped at the Parliament Complex, Constitution Avenue, Suva.
