“You Are Never Alone: A Heartfelt Message to Mission Staff from the Speaker”
Today, the Hon. Filimone Jitoko, Speaker of the Fijian Parliament, met with staff at the Fiji Mission in Geneva to thank them for their commitment and service in proudly representing Fiji on the global stage.
Whilst thanking the staff for the welcome and hospitality accorded to the delegation, Hon. Jitoko encouraged the team that they are never alone.
“At times you may think you are forgotten, but when people talk and boast about Fiji’s reputation abroad, it is you who proudly carry Fiji’s flag.”
“I can only encourage you and those that support you in the Mission, to continue the good work as God is watching and will reward you accordingly.”
Hon. Jitoko is in Geneva for the 6th World Conference of Speakers that begins tomorrow, Tuesday 29 to Thursday 31 July, at the Palais des Nations, United Nations Office.
The Conference, which happens every five years, brings together the highest-level representatives of parliaments and the United Nations and plays an important role in strengthening the parliamentary dimension of global governance and bridging the democracy gap in international affairs.
The last Conference of Speakers was held in 2020, which was attended by former Speaker Hon. Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
