Speaker Presents i-reguregu Before Overseas Engagement

Speaker of the Fijian Parliament the Hon. Filimone Jitoko presented his i-reguregu, in honour of the late Minister for Agriculture and Waterways the Hon. Vatimi Rayalu, before departing for an official engagement in Melbourne, Australia.
The late Hon. Vatimi Rayalu was sworn-in as a Member of Parliament on 24 December 2022 after he won his seat in the 2022 general election under the People’s Alliance Party, and subsequently sworn-in as a Cabinet Minister in the Coalition Government.
During the presentation, the Minister for Immigration the Hon. Viliame Naupoto, conveyed that the Head of the Legislature wished to pay his final respects to the family following the passing of one of his Members.
“The Hon. Speaker extends his apologies for breaching the established protocol, which was for the i-reguregu to commence on Wednesday,” he said.
“Due to his absence this week, he will be unable to attend the farewell service for the late Minister. As such, he made the decision to come today to honour a dedicated son of Fiji.”
Minister Naupoto continued, “The late Minister served his Ministry, Parliament, his Vanua, and those of us who knew him from school with unwavering commitment.”
The late Hon. Vatimi Rayalu rose through the ranks, reaching the height of his career as Minister of the very Ministry he cherished — a journey that began in 1991 as an agriculture assistant.
He passed away on Thursday after a brief illness and will be laid to rest on Friday, 20 June 2025.
May his soul rest in God’s eternal peace.
