Deputy Speaker to Represent the Fijian Parliament at the 28th CSPOC in New Delhi

The Deputy Speaker and Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, will represent the Fijian Parliament at the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), scheduled to take place at the Parliament of India in New Delhi from 15–17 January 2026.

The Speaker of Parliament the Hon. Filimone Jitoko, was initially invited by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Hon. Shri Om Birla, as host of the 28th CSPOC. However, due to prior commitments, the Hon. Deputy Speaker will attend on his behalf, with the approval of the Hon. Prime Minister. The Hon. Deputy Speaker is being accompanied by the Deputy Secretary-General Mr Abele Sakulu and Manager Tables Mrs Saleshni Prasad.

Held under the auspices of the Commonwealth, the CSPOC brings together Speakers and Presiding Officers from national parliaments of independent Commonwealth countries. The Conference serves as a vital platform to strengthen parliamentary co-operation, promote democratic values, and reinforce bilateral relationships, including the close ties between Fiji and India.

The Deputy Speaker’s participation acknowledges the importance of Fiji’s continued engagement at the Commonwealth level and its strong relationship with the Government and people of India. The Fijian Parliament expresses its gratitude to the Government of India for generously providing funding to support the travel arrangements of the delegation.

The CSPOC aims to uphold impartiality and fairness in parliamentary leadership, enhance knowledge of parliamentary democracy in its diverse forms, and strengthen parliamentary institutions across the Commonwealth.

The Fijian Parliament looks forward to fostering collaboration with international parliamentary partners to advance democratic governance, mutual co-operation and shared Commonwealth values.
