SENATE AD HOC COMMITTEE ENQUIRY
INTO THE SOCIAL EFFECTS OF DRUGS, VIOLENT CRIMES & PROSTITUTION
On the 18th of December 2004 the Hon. Senator Viliame Navoka moved a Motion calling on the Senate to establish an Ad Hoc Committee to enquire into and make recommendations on the social effects of drug use, violent crimes and prostitution in the Fiji Islands.
The Motion was carried and the Ad Hoc Committee was established with the following Terms of Reference:
To enquire into the causes, supply and linkages related to:
(a) illicit drugs and substance abuse;
(b) drug-related violent crimes;
(c) drug-related sexual crimes; and
(d) prostitution.
To enquire into the effects on the population.
To study the various reports relevant to the motion in terms of combating, alleviating and attempting to solve these societal problems.
To investigate ways and means to combat the above problems by education, counselling, monitoring, rehabilitation, policing and improved legislation.
To under taken field visits to assist the Committee in its investigative work.
To report back to the Senate with its findings and recommendations within
